Psalm 119:73:  Thy hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

Psalmist David tells God that it is His hands that made him and fashioned him agreeing with the creation of God in the book of Genesis.  God says, “let us make man in our image.”  God created us with His own hands.  The scriptures also tell us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.  He has fashioned us already and we lack no more fashioning.  He made us like Himself to have His character in us.

Since God has already made us and fashioned us or styled us like him, it is He that we should be going after for understanding and wisdom.  Since God has fashioned us and He is our maker, He knows to fill us with understanding in the areas where we lack it.  David says to give him understanding so that he can learn His commandments.  He did not ask understanding for anything else.  He never prayed to God to give him understanding to learn how to control his kingdom or how to stay away from his enemies.  He said to God to give him understanding to know His scriptures well and to learn His commandments.  He wanted to know more of God and to do what pleases Him the most.  We are designed and fashioned in such a way that we will learn more of God, stand strong in times of pain, and to never lose hope or sight of God.

Ask God for wisdom to learn more from Him to benefit our spirit and that we will always praise God with our bodies.  Knowing God more through His commandments leads us to trust Him more and obey Him.
