Matthew 1:23 – “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
One of the choir members as she was singing in the church, an old hymn: “He walks with me, and talks with me and tells me I am His own”, she realized that she was not really walking with Jesus, was not really talking to Jesus, she did not yet really belong to Jesus. She had been going along as if Jesus was in her life, but the truth was, she had never really been saved.
At the end of that service, she received Jesus as her Lord and Savior, to experience that God really was “with her.”
Do we assume that God is with us, without the benefit of really having Jesus in our lives?
When Mary believed and received God’s word, God did the impossible. She, a virgin was with a child called Emmanuel “God with us”. This is the amazing news of God revealing Himself and the saving plan for the lost mankind! A prophesy was fulfilled to precision after approximately 700 years of it being foretold (Isaiah 7:14).
Now we can have a relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. We don’t have to walk through life by ourselves. God can indeed be “with us” and in us, all the time. We need to receive Jesus into our life to be saved. Only then will He be “God with us;”
John 1:12 says “As many as received Him to them He gave the right to become the children of God.”
