God’s Deliverance

Psalm 34:17

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

Though David had been pursued by countless enemies, was betrayed, and faced danger, he could declare with confidence that God was his deliverer. The Hebrew word for “cry out” here is “tsa’aq“, which means a desperate, urgent call for help. It is not a casual prayer but a cry out of deep distress. The righteous—those who trust God and seek His ways—are not immune to trouble. But, they have the assurance that their cries reach the ears of the Lord, who listens.

God does not just hear—He acts. The word “delivers” here means to snatch away, to rescue completely from danger. When His people are in distress, God doesn’t stand by passively; He intervenes.

Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of this promise. He is our Savior, who rescues us from sin, death, and every trouble that seeks to destroy us. Whatever troubles you face today—fear, anxiety, sickness, or loss—know this: When you cry out to God, He hears you. His deliverance may not always come in the way or timing we expect, but His rescue is certain. He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He will never abandon those who trust in Him.

Cry out to Him today. He hears. He delivers. He saves!
