Goodness of God: Now and Forevermore

Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.

In these comforting words of the psalmist, we find an affirmation of God’s unwavering presence. The psalmist declares confidently that goodness and mercy will be constant companions throughout our life’s journey. This assurance extends beyond worldly comforts, promising an eternal dwelling in the house of the Lord.
“Surely” emphasises the certainty of God’s goodness and mercy trailing behind us. For in God, there is certainty and clarity, not confusion. The promise is not limited to our good or bad circumstances; it is a steadfast promise. These qualities of God are not irregular but enduring, offering comfort in the face of life’s uncertainties.
The psalmist’s desire to dwell in the house of the Lord forever reflects a deep thirst for eternal communion with God; which we now, as believers, have received through the communion with our Saviour Jesus Christ. It’s not merely a hope for life after death but a recognition that God’s house is a shelter where the soul finds ultimate rest and fulfilment.
