Psalms 111:10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
According to the world, wisdom comes with age. Some say that experiences make us wise. People look up to Socrates as a source of wisdom & philosophical knowledge. The world encourages us to make mistakes, try new things, talk to new people etc. to get wise. But, the omniscient God says, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
What is wisdom? Wisdom is the ability to discern the situations and make right choices that won’t let us regret in future. Our worldly experiences, our knowledge, our education, our skills or our elders…none of these will be able to equip us fully to make right choices; nor can they insure us from the consequences of our bad choices. However, as born-again believers, we know that our God is the greatest creator who created everything with His wisdom.
When we look any watch, we see a metal case, and inside the case, a complicated arrangement of wheels and levers and springs. Have all these metals and jewels come together from the ends of the earth by chance and made themselves and assembled themselves into this complicated mechanism and wound themselves up and set themselves going? No! we know there’s a watchmaker who made that watch. Similarly, when we look at the world, we see a vast machine which is in perfect working order. Sun’s rise and set in an unchanging succession, seasons following in an established order; an orderly food-chain on the earth satisfying every species, the very design of the human body consisting of 3.1 billion bases of DNA put together in each of the 100 trillion cells in the body…all these shout out His majesty and we are bound to say there must be a Worldmaker! This worldmaker is our God, the Great I am who created the universe with His wisdom out of nothing. “I have made the earth and created man upon it: I, even my hands have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded” (Isaiah 45:12). The poet Addison rightly says:
“The unwearied sun, from day to day
Does his Creator’s power display,
And publishes to every land,
The work of a great Almighty Hand.”
With such a mighty God on our side, let us learn to rely on Him and surrender ourselves totally, asking for heavenly wisdom to operate ourselves in this world.
Thanks be to our Creator for everything. Thanks for the message
