Mark 11:10
Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!
For around 400 years, Jewish rulers, prophets, and countrymen anticipated the coming of the Messiah to save them from the treacherous Roman empire. Most of them, especially the priestly class, believed He would come as a military ruler to overthrow the Roman empire. However, those who carefully read the prophecies of scripture knew that He would come to establish an eternal kingdom that outlasted life on earth.
When Christ, our Lord, walked the face of the earth, people marveled at His doings and His power over uncontrollable things, and many accepted His identity. In Mark 11:10, the scripture speaks about people welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem as He entered on a donkey, fulfilling prophecies and symbolizing the nature of His first coming. Here, the Jews regarded Jesus as the King who would free them from Roman rule.
The word ‘Hosanna’ in Hebrew means praise, adoration or joy. The Jews used it to indicate their excitement and happiness as they saw their promised Saviour—the Messiah who would put an end to their misery.
Today’s verse not only indicates triumph but also the promise of God fulfilled to His people. The significance of Christ’s triumphal entry is that it fills our hearts with praise and adoration for His majesty. When Jesus enters our lives, He brings hope and freedom, and fills us with joy. We have the assurance that we will be taken care of and nothing, by any means, can put us down. Amen.
