1 Peter 5:6-7 – “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
We live in a generation that craves recognition. Whether it is the number of ‘likes’ on a Facebook status update, or words of praise from a boss, everybody wants to be appreciated in some way or the other. We find students who hang around the teacher get better marks, or an employee who keeps bragging about himself gets the promotion. It’s easy to think that we can come up in this world only if we blow our own trumpet. But Peter’s advice in the Bible contradicts that thought.
In today’s Scripture, Peter tells us to humble ourselves under God. Being humble does not mean we let people walk all over us. It does not mean we don’t stand up for what we believe, or give up what is rightfully ours. On the contrary, it means we know what our identity is in Christ, and acknowledge that it is He who has brought us this far.
The next time you feel you are overlooked, remind yourself that God will exalt you in due time. Even if no one else notices, God sees the good work you are doing and He will reward you for it. When you submit yourself to God, you become His responsibility. Cast all your worries and cares on Jesus, and take comfort in the fact that He cares for you. Humble yourself before God, and He will lift you up. That’s His promise to you!
