1 Peter 2:21
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.
We have been invited by Christ to live a life just as He walked. This entire chapter teaches us on how to be like Jesus. In fact, once you are born again, you are mandated to abandon every form and every trace of evil, pretence, jealousy and slander.
We are to live honourable lives even in the midst of unbelievers. The Bible says, even if they slander you, you are to conduct yourself righteously. There will be a day when the Lord will open their eyes to see your good works and have a reason to glorify Him. We are to respect authority and not behave in a manner to be considered as a danger to our society. Treat everyone with respect and dignity. When you are treated badly because of your good behaviour, don’t let it discourage you. For what counts is how you continue to conduct yourself well despite the consequences.
How is that possible, one may ask? Well, Christ Himself set the example for us. He never did one thing wrong, never once said anything amiss. He was slandered, accused, berated, hated even, and mocked. Yet, He did not give back. He trusted His Father to set things right.
Jesus faithfully entrusted Himself into the Hands of His Father on a daily basis. Beloved, Christ has given us the blueprint for life. Jesus has given us His Word for sustenance. He has given us His Spirit for counsel, guidance and power. He gave us Himself for our healing and righteousness. What a blessedness to live life like Christ!!!
