In the Morning

Psalm 5:3 – “My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.”

What does your morning routine look like? For most of us, it’s a barely conscious move to switch off the alarm, scroll through the notifications on our phones, hurry to get ready, grab something to eat/drink and rush onward with our day. We do spend a few minutes of our time in Bible study and prayer, but we barely recollect what we learnt once we get on with our day.

In the verse above, David’s words remind us where our focus should be in the morning. Not on the smartphone, to-do list, newspaper or television, but on the God who kept us alive all night! The best part of looking up to God each morning is that you know He’s fully present with you in that moment.

Before you get on with your day, take some time to silence your phone, remove distractions and go away to a quiet place by yourself. Spend a few minutes reading your Bible, learn from it and etch God’s Word on your heart. Open up and speak freely with your Heavenly Father and Friend. Ask Him to direct your path today and teach you every step of the way. The more time you spend with God, the more you will grow. And the more you grow in Christ, the more your attitude and character will mirror His. Seek God in the morning and receive His grace for the rest of your day.
