John 14:24
“He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”
This verse powerfully affirms that love and obedience are inseparable; each completes the other. At some point, we’ve all struggled to fully love God or to consistently follow His Word. Yet Jesus leaves no room for ambiguity: those who truly love Him will remain faithful to His teachings. This isn’t a suggestion; it is a divine command. Moreover, He reminds us that His words carry the authority of the Father Himself, making obedience not just an act of devotion, but a response to heaven’s call.
This truth can be difficult to grasp, especially in a world often shaped by superficiality, hypocrisy, and hostility. In our daily lives, obedience is rarely rooted in love but driven by fear, pressure, or obligation. That’s why disobedience tends to invite punishment.
However, God’s approach stands apart. He invites us to obey, not through force but through love. It’s a love so profound that it turns commandments into connection, and rules into relationship. The God of the Holy Bible isn’t after mere obedience; He desires your heart. And when you fully surrender your heart to Him, obedience flows naturally, no longer as a burden but as a joyful response.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to love You deeply, not just in word but in action. Let my obedience be a joyful response to Your grace, not a reluctant duty. Remind me that Your commands are not burdens but bridges to deeper intimacy with You. Amen.
