Psalm 18:29 NKJV
“By You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall.”
The psalmist’s bold declaration in this psalm comes from a heart that had experienced God’s enabling power firsthand. As a warrior-king who faced numerous physical and spiritual battles, David understood that seemingly insurmountable obstacles become conquerable challenges with God. One well-known example of this is the battle between young David and Goliath.
This verse paints a picture of God’s empowering presence in our lives. The metaphor of scaling a wall represents those moments when we face obstacles that appear impossible to overcome. We find similar confidence in Philippians 4:13, where Paul declares, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Sometimes, when we face that giant wall, we have to, as Isaiah 40:31 says, wait on the Lord, and we “will run and not grow weary.” On the other hand, some walls allow us to pray actively, in faith, over the walls. The walls of Jerico came down by faith put into action.
Life will present us with many walls—challenges that seem too high to climb and impenetrable barriers. Yet, with God’s strength, we can overcome any obstacle. Let us approach our challenges today with the confidence that comes from knowing we serve a God who empowers His people to do the impossible.
