Listening to God’s Guidance

You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Psalm 73:24. (NIV)

This verse assures us that God’s direction goes beyond Earth into eternity, not limited to the here and now. He leads us through the good and challenging times of life. As we seek God’s counsel and follow His leading, we can confidently believe He will guide our lives. It may not always be easy, and there may be obstacles, but God is faithful to lead us through every challenge. His guidance is like a gentle hand guiding us through the twists and turns of life’s journey.

God guides us through His Word, the Bible. The psalmist declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). Its pages include ageless lessons and precepts that guide us on life’s journey and enlighten our path. God talks to our hearts through His Word, giving us guidance and understanding as we read and reflect on it.

God guides us as we pray and hear His still, small voice. Jesus encourages us, saying, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). We must take the time to quiet our hearts and listen. We can ask for His direction and submit our plans to His will by praying.

God guides us through wise counsel and godly mentors. The book of Proverbs tells us, “Where there is no guidance, people fall, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14). He brings godly people into our lives who can help, encourage, and support us along the journey. God frequently uses the knowledge and understanding of those who have a close relationship with the Lord to communicate with us, whether they be a pastor, mentor, or trustworthy friend.

The key, however, is our willingness to listen to God’s guidance, which is essential.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for Your wisdom and guidance. Help us to trust Your guidance daily. May we confidently follow You, knowing You will lead us safely to our ultimate destination- eternity. May we seek Your counsel and trust in Your guidance in every decision.

In Jesus’ Name

Amen
