Magnify the Lord Together

Psalm 34:3 NKJV

“Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.”

One definition of the word “magnify” is to make something seem larger, clearer, or more important. In the context of today’s verse, it means to look to God more predominantly and express His greatness and worth. Though God is already infinitely strong and majestic, by magnifying Him, we set our hearts to confess that He is great in our lives.

Praising God is not about lifting Him higher, since He is already above all, but is a reminder that He is our Creator, Provider, and Redeemer. The realities of life tend to overwhelm us, and sometimes lead us astray. However, we can fix our eyes back on the Lord by magnifying Him. This way, we are drawn to focus on His power and provision instead of our problems, thus being assured that the one on the throne, the God of mercy, is in charge.

As we praise God, we declare His works to others. We encourage one another by sharing how He has answered prayers, provided during great needs, and helped us through hardships. Worship becomes a testimony that draws others closer to Him.

If you have attended a concert or a sporting event, you would have experienced an electric atmosphere. The crowd sings, cheers, and revels in joy and excitement. Even richer is the experience when we worship God with other children of God – be it in church, in a small group, or simply with a friend; His name is magnified, and His presence fills the atmosphere.

Worship is taken to the next level in a community. It is not simply about singing songs, but about coming together as one to honor our God. By exalting Him as one, we unify our bond with one another and thus strengthen our relationship with Him.
