Jeremiah 32:40 – “I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from me.”
The Lord is so faithful to His promises, to His word, when He says He will do, He absolutely does. When He says that He will make an everlasting covenant with us, be assured that He will. All His promises will be fulfilled, and He delights in doing good to us.
But a covenant is an “agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons, to do or not to do something specified.” (Dictionary). So the everlasting covenant is between God and us, and in order for us to be under this extraordinary flow of His grace and goodness, we also must do our part of the agreement.
As long as we remain obedient to the Lord, following His statutes, depending on His direction, His promise to do us good will remain. Then we will enjoy the benefits of His love; we will know that all things work together for our good; we will live His good, pleasant and perfect will; we will live His plans and not our plans; we will soar on wings like eagles; we will never be tired or weary, we will always have renewed strength.
The key is to remain in awe of Him. Not to be afraid, but to fear Him, to revere Him. And our fear of the Lord should remain in our hearts, so that we continue to follow and focus on Him, so that we will not be disobedient, and so that we will not depart from Him.
“Lord, help us to continuously be in awe of You, of who You are, help us not to remove our eyes from You, we give You our hearts, because we love and trust in You.” In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
