Psalms 103:8

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

Blessed New Year, 2026!

Another 365 days lie ahead of us, filled with God’s unending new mercies and unceasing steadfast love. The past year may have been tough for some and easy for others. Regardless, give it to God and let go of the past. Let’s march into this year, confidently knowing that our Lord is merciful and gracious to us. Let us allow the abounding promises of this psalm to reassure our souls as we surrender to Him.

God forgives our sins and heals every disease (Psalm 103:3). He satisfies our desires with good things (Psalm 103:5). His indescribable love for us is beyond comparison (Psalm 103:11). As east never meets the west, so far has our Lord removed our sins (Psalm 103:12).

David, the psalmist, traversed through many hills and valleys in his roller-coaster life journey. Great was his love for God and His ways, yet he fell many times in his walk with God. But he knew that the Lord was his Shepherd and, like a good Shepherd, the Lord was abounding in mercy.

God is merciful even when we don’t deserve it. Gracious, when we fail miserably with our own strength. As humans, we lose our cool at the slightest mistake of others, but God is patient and slow to anger. If He were a god of wrath, none of us would exist. Our Lord abounds in mercy.

As we step into this new year full of possibilities and challenges, let’s walk alongside the Shepherd of our lives – Jesus Christ. Rather than starting with our own limited strengths and plans, let the limitless Lord anoint us with His presence, promises, and hope.
