The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. Psalm 28:7 (KJV)
In Psalm 28, David is intensely distressed, his mind peaceless, his heart bitter and hurt because of the constant threats, backstabbing, evil plotting, wicked wishing people that surrounded him. His laments come from the depth of a broken heart; He is helpless and desperate. Despite his deep distress as this Psalm come to its end, we see the shift in David’s focus. He turns his attention to God away from the problem.
He declares confidently based on the past rescues and his relationship with God – The Lord is his Strength and Shield. David’s attitude turns from anguish to adoration and worship when he focuses on the attributes of God.
Today we face many difficulties that are similar or complex and long-drawn. Our situations may make us feel lonely, drained, angry, hurt and lost in our intense struggle. Instead of flowing along with the current, we need to bring every thought into captive and make them obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). We have to train our thoughts to line up with God’s word. The more we know our God, the more confident we become in our life and our future because we believe and rest in our promise today- The Lord is our Strength and Shield.
Dear Heavenly Father, We thank You for you are our strength and our shield. Thank you that you hear us when we call on your name. Please help us to take every thought captive to Christ. We pray this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN.
