Restored by the Shepherd

Psalm 23:3

He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

This verse has brought comfort to millions across generations, offering hope even in the hardest of times.

The scriptures often compare us (human beings) to sheep, ever wondered why? While we may picture sheep peacefully grazing on a hillside, the reality is different. Sheep have a herd mentality; they follow the flock even into danger. They are vulnerable and often end up in messy situations.

In the same way, we too can wander and fall into trouble. But our Lord Jesus is our Good Shepherd, willing to go where no one else would, to rescue us from sin because He loves us, just as we are – even with our “sheep-like” tendencies.

The cross is the ultimate example of Jesus sparing no cost for His lost sheep. Yet, His shepherding didn’t end at Calvary. Today, His care and provision continue to meet our deepest needs. Today’s verse reminds us of God’s restorative work in us. Let us thank God, our Good Shepherd, for His unwavering, devoted, relentless love.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for forgiving us when we followed the world instead of staying close to You, our Shepherd. We praise You for Your goodness and mercy, which are new every day. By your grace, may we follow You all the days of our lives.

Today is National Youth Day. Let us thank God for our young people – for their energy, dreams, courage, and hope for a better future. Let us pray that the youth would utilize their potential to become self-reliant, confident, and contribute to the progress of their communities and the nation. May our youth be shepherded by divine guidance and wisdom, and be strengthened to walk with purpose and integrity.
