Romans 8:11 – “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
Can you imagine how the disciples must have felt after Jesus died? They had spent approximately three years following the Messiah, and suddenly He was no more. Jesus did tell them He’d be back, but they probably didn’t think it would actually happen. It’s no wonder that some of the disciples went back to the lives they had before they knew Christ.
But when Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to them, they truly believed. Their lives were never going to be the same. After Jesus ascended to Heaven, the disciples followed His instructions and waited for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. That one event changed the course of their ministry. They were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to share the Gospel and do wonders in the Name of Jesus.
Today’s verse reminds us that the same power that rose Jesus from the dead now dwells in us who believe. The same Spirit that dwelt in Jesus and empowered Him on earth is now within us. If only we could understand the depth of this powerful gift God has bestowed on us! Are you pulled down and weary with mundane matters of life? Allow the Holy Spirit to breathe new life into you.
