Righteous vs Wicked

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.

This psalm serves as a mirror reflecting the world around, a world filled with corruption and wickedness. But even with all of that, the righteous thrive with the help of the Lord. King David wrote this psalm based on his personal experiences. He began as an unwanted child, a shepherd, and a fugitive and eventually became a prominent king of Israel.

If David had not committed his way to the Lord, he may have just remained a forgotten shepherd. The unjust actions of his family would have prevailed. Israel would not have had a potent king who is revered even today. Throughout his life, David faced choices between wickedness and righteousness. He placed his trust in God’s anointing in his life and refrained from taking matters into his own hands. Even though he had opportunities to kill King Saul and escape a life of fleeing from a mad king, he waited for the fulfillment of God’s promises in His perfect timing.

Before David, Noah and his family were the only righteous group in a world drowning in wickedness (2 Peter 2:5). We may grow weary in our pursuit of righteousness (Galatians 6:9). But think about Noah: for about 100 years he stood as a testimony of righteousness to those around him. God waited patiently for the wicked, desiring that everyone would come to Him (2 Peter 3:9). Sadly, many chose a life apart from God.

Let’s make sure our lives reflect God’s righteousness and that we stay strong in our commitment to Him. God alone can bring His perfect plans to fruition in our lives. As we align ourselves with His will, our lives will serve as a testimony to God’s salvation while the wicked perish around us.
