Psalm 34:9-10

“Fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want for those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”

We live in a world where we’re constantly under pressure to strive, hustle, and provide for ourselves, often at the cost of our peace, health, and rest. This culture of self-reliance can lead to mental and physical burnout. In the midst of all this, Psalm 34:9-10 offers a deeply comforting reminder: God takes care of His people.

The call to “fear the Lord” isn’t about living in terror. It’s an invitation to walk in awe, reverence, and surrender – to recognize that He is God, and that He alone is our true provider, protector, and sustainer. It means choosing to put Jesus above everything else, trusting that His ways are higher and His provision is sure.

The imagery of young lions is striking. These animals are known for their strength, speed, and hunting ability. Yet even they can suffer hunger. This shows us that human strength, no matter how great, can still fail. But those who seek the Lord, who depend on His strength instead of their own, are promised something far greater: they will not lack any good thing.

It doesn’t mean life will be free from trials or waiting seasons. But it does mean that God, in His perfect wisdom and timing, will not withhold what is truly good – whether that’s daily provision, peace in the storm, or the fulfillment of a long-awaited prayer. His goodness is steady, and His care is constant for those who seek Him.
