Strength in Humility

Matthew 5:3

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

In a world where pride often takes the lead and success seems to define worth, the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:3 still echo softly yet powerfully: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This is not a message about material poverty, but about spiritual posture.

It speaks of a heart that knows its need for God—a soul that acknowledges, “Without Him, I am nothing.” To be poor in spirit is to recognize that our strength, our wisdom, and our righteousness can never compare to His. It is the emptying of self so that God can fill us with His grace.

The poor in spirit do not boast in what they have; they rest in who He is. Such hearts become fertile ground for the kingdom of heaven to take root. The humble find what the proud overlook—the unshakable joy that comes from walking closely with the Lord.

So today, let us not consider humility a weakness, for that is where divine strength dwells. When we lower ourselves in surrender, heaven itself draws near. The doorway to God’s kingdom is not reached through pride, but through dependence—through a heart that beats in rhythm with His mercy. Those who know their need for God are truly the richest of all.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we’re grateful that Your ways are not like the ways of the world, and Your plans are higher than ours. Help us remain meek and humble, be dependent on You at every step, and display Your loving kindness to the people around us. Amen.
