Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Since the beginning of time, the world has witnessed many powerful men accomplishing great exploits. Yet, regardless of their pursuits or strengths, they have their own weaknesses. Some weaknesses are situational, while others reflect the inherent limitations of humankind. Often, these weaknesses lead to disappointment and failure, discouraging us from our mission.

In Philippians 4:13, Paul speaks of being able to accomplish all things, not by his own will or strength, but through the power of God at work within him. While “all things” is often understood as achieving goals or winning victories, the primary emphasis is on enduring hardship and emerging victorious through difficult circumstances.

The very fact that Paul writes to strengthen the Church, assuring them that Christ is with them and will help them through their situation, indicates that hardships and shortcomings are inevitable. Yet, through the power of Christ, we can walk in victory.

As we strive to resist sin, overcome temptation, and face the challenges of this world, the Word of God promises His presence to strengthen and assure us that we are not fighting alone. When our strength comes from Someone greater than ourselves, we can be confident of triumph in our pursuit of holiness.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your great love that surrounds us. This Lenten season, we desire to become more like Christ. Strengthen our hearts and help us fix our focus on You – not striving in our own strength, but leaning on You in every circumstance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
