The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7 NIV

The book of Nahum consists of only three chapters; however, reading it is like finding a library of the attributes of God’s strength. Prophet Nahum boldly announces the future to God’s children. God was going to execute His judgment by destroying their cruel enemy. God cared for His people, and He still does! Our God is all-powerful and omnipotent!

Today’s verse unfolds in a beautiful sequence. The goodness of God is a refuge in times of trouble, and He cares for those who trust in him.

The Lord is good:

Goodness saturates the character of God. He is the ultimate absolute; He is a good God!

1 Chronicles 16:34 – Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 119:68 – You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes.

Psalm 135:3 – Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to His name, for it is pleasant!

A refuge in times of trouble:

A refuge is a secure shelter where one can find safety. Since Jesus shed His precious blood on the cross for humanity, all those who trust and have faith in Him are covered by His blood. No force of hell can penetrate through the mighty protection of Jesus’ blood. Jesus and His Word are a safe place. A lifestyle that honors the principles of the Bible ensures safety from all evil.

He cares for those who trust Him:

The care of the Lord is unmatched because God watches over us day and night. He never sleeps nor slumbers. God is so invested in our lives that He knows the number of hairs on our heads. Because He cares for us, He invites us to cast our cares on Him. Let’s respond to Him with trust. God didn’t withhold His only beloved Son Jesus from us; will He not freely give us all good things?

In times of trouble, remember that the Lord is good and He is mighty! He cares for you. So, trust Him.
