Surf the Waves

Isaiah 43:2 – “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

Surfing cannot be an easy sport. Think of the intricate balance that surfers must maintain on their board while huge waves come right at them. It would intimidate just about anyone… except the surfer. People who’ve learnt to surf had to practice rigorously day in and day out for years together in order to master the art of surfing. What might seem scary and dangerous to an outsider, is just a sport for the surfer.

We go through seasons of life where the waves just keep coming at us. We struggle to hold our breath and stay afloat while trials keep slamming us down. We’re just barely getting by, holding on to the little faith we’re able to muster. Yes, those can be scary times. But today’s key verse gives us a promise we can hold on to.

God assures us that when we pass through rough waters, He is there with us. The waves of our trials will not overwhelm us because He’s watching out for us. If you’re going through a rough patch in your life, hold onto the hand of your Lifeguard who walks on water. Cling on to Jesus and learn to surf the waves coming at you. Your faith will be strengthened and life will become easier to navigate. And as others see you surfing the rough waters of your life, they’ll stand amazed at the God who’s holding your hand and guiding you through.
