Habakkuk 2:4 – “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.”
“Pride goes before destruction”.(Proverbs 16:18)
Pride separates us from God, it is self-serving, self-seeking, it points to one’s self achievements, it produces a puffed up soul. Pride distorts reality and can give the proud man a momentary feeling of self-sufficiency. Pride pushes away grace and all goodness which can only be received when the strongholds of the mind and heart are brought low and finally removed. Pride is one of the attributes of Satan, who wanted to be like God.
Pride is not a Christ like attribute. Jesus said “…learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.” (Matthew 11:29). Jesus was humble, taught humility by action when He washed the disciples’ feet for example; He treated everyone with kindness and equality; He never shamed anyone, He did not give more importance to a rich man, or to a powerful religious or political leader, or to anyone who thought could manipulate Him with his influence or power.
“But the just shall live by his faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4).
We must remove all pride which blinds us and impedes grace from flowing in and through us. We must fill ourselves with the love that flows from the throne of grace, which washes us clean and delivers us from everything that separates us from God. We must strongly and forcefully press ourselves close to the Father’s bosom, and humbly accept that apart from Him we are and can do nothing.
