The Lord’s Heritage

Psalm 127:3-4 NKJV

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.

God places the lonely in families (Psalm 68:6), not as a punishment or to burden them but as a blessing. Since families are an inheritance from God, He will meet every need of your family. God can bless families with children (Genesis 33:5) and withhold children too (Genesis 30:2).

Today’s verse concludes by outlining a comparison between children and arrows. Though arrows are shot only once, they are constantly sharpened to achieve maximum impact. They must be aimed precisely and given direction. They also possess the potential for both good and evil.

Similar to arrows, we need to direct our children on the right paths to fulfill God’s purposes for their lives. So, as parents or elders, we bear a significant responsibility to train our children while they are young (Proverbs 22:6). Given the amount of worldly knowledge that today’s generation possesses, it is nearly impossible to instill in them biblical truths and principles. However, we have the guidance and assistance of the Holy Spirit to nurture them in godly ways.

Today, seek the Holy Spirit’s counsel and guidance to lead the family God has blessed you with. Our future generations need divine wisdom to become history-makers in a fallen age. Let us pray that we pass on our Father’s legacy and gifts faithfully to future generations.
