The Sacrifice of Praise

Hebrews 13:15 NKJV

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

We love to sing songs of praise to the Lord in church – with good music and a choir. We joyfully praise God for who He is and thank Him for all the blessings He’s so graciously given us. It hardly seems like a sacrifice to praise God in such an environment. But on a random weekday – when life feels chaotic and we’re struggling to make it through the day – do we still take time to praise God?

Today’s verse reminds us that through Jesus, we can continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God. It is a sacrifice to choose thanksgiving instead of grumbling when things don’t go our way. It’s not easy to praise God when we’re waiting for a breakthrough. But we can, because Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice in our place. He paid the price for our sins – so we can live with Him for eternity. Isn’t that enough to stir up thanksgiving in our hearts?

God who gave His only beloved Son for our redemption, has also given us the Holy Spirit to guide us through the complexities of life. When we focus on who God is rather than our problems, it will help us cultivate an attitude of praise.

Are you going through a rough situation? Exalt the Lord even in your difficulties and let His peace flood your heart. He will give you the strength to endure and the grace to overcome. Allow the Holy Spirit to minister to your soul as you let your sacrifice of praise rise up to the Lord.
