Psalms 118:15
“The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.”
The sense of hearing is one we often take for granted. For those of us who have the privilege to hear clearly, we’re inundated with sounds from the moment we wake up to the moment we fall asleep. Some pleasant sounds like the call of a bird or the babbling of an infant bring us joy. While other irritating noises like a persistent app notification or a heated argument tend to steal our peace.
Today’s verse describes the sound that is heard in the tents of the righteous – the voice of joy and shouts of victory! Every child of God who’s committed their life to Christ is considered to be in the tent of the righteous. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, we have a claim to rejoicing and salvation. The Lord indeed has done mighty things on our behalf. But are we actively proclaiming His good works and living in the victory He’s won for us?
The world around us is actively listening to the sounds we emit. Will they hear grumbling, complaining and gossiping? Or will they hear us voice out words of appreciation, hope and joy that reflect our faith in our Lord and Creator? When we live in the conscious knowledge that our God is for us, we’ll have the strength to praise Him and live with hope, even in the midst of utter hopelessness.
