2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
These words, spoken directly by the Lord to Paul, came in response to his repeated prayers for deliverance from his “thorn in the flesh.” This powerful verse reveals a unique fact of our faith: our weaknesses become the channels through which God’s strength flows most powerfully.
Paul’s experience teaches us that sometimes God’s greatest gifts come not in removing our struggles but in the grace He provides to endure them. In Isaiah 40:29, we read, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Similarly, James 4:6 reminds us that “God gives grace to the humble,” talking about how our acknowledgement of weakness positions us to receive His strength.
Jesus mentioned in Matthew 20:22 that His disciples would drink from the same cup that He would drink from, i.e., the cup of suffering. Rest assured, we must be prepared for any trouble or moment of weakness that may come our way, knowing that God’s grace will help us overcome the obstacles we face.
In our moments of greatest vulnerability, we can find comfort in knowing that God’s grace isn’t just barely enough—it’s abundantly sufficient. Let us embrace our weaknesses today, for they are the stage upon which God’s power performs its most magnificent work. Let us allow God to turn our trials into testimonies!
