“I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land.” (Leviticus 26:6)
Imagine if we daily had to worry about terrorist attacks and wars; or if we lived in a land filled with wild animals and we could not rest for a moment, either during the day, or at night. How would we be able to peacefully lie down and rest if we feared for something or someone?
Times have changed, and we ought to be thankful that we don’t need to worry about any of these things. Most of us live in safe places; our country is at peace; for the most part wild beasts don’t come so near the cities where we live; and following this logic, most of us lie down in peace.
But what can we do to ensure God’s protection over our lives? Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind.” (Luke 10:27). When we Love and Obey the Lord, one of the rewards He grants us is His Protection, a blessing.
And God is faithful to all His promises. He said “I, the Lord, am your God. I will give you peace in the land. I will live among you, and I will not despise you. I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.” (Leviticus 26:1;11-12).
So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1) Thank You Lord for being my Protector and Deliverer; thank You because I can lie down and sleep in peace; in the shelter of Your wings. Amen!
