Psalm 4:3 NKJV

“Know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; the Lord will hear when I call to Him. “

God set David apart to fulfill His will and bring glory to His name. In the same way, God has chosen you and me as His beloved children. Ephesians 1:4 tells us that He chose us even before we were in our mother’s womb. It is no coincidence that we heard the gospel; it was divinely orchestrated. God designed every detail of when, how, and where we would come to know our Savior and His plan for our lives.

David exemplifies the purpose God has for each person. As a young shepherd boy, the youngest of eight brothers, he seemed ordinary but God had chosen him. His father didn’t even consider him when Samuel came to anoint a king from Jesse’s family. Yet, God directed Samuel to anoint David as King of Israel (1 Samuel 16:1-13). David went on to win many battles and was mightily blessed by God. In Acts 13:22, God refers to him as “a man after my own heart.”

Likewise, God chose us from the very beginning. He knows every detail of our lives and equips us with the strength to face our battles and the grace to receive His blessings. Romans 8:28 reminds us that “in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.”

Let us trust that the Lord has a purpose for each of His children. He has already made the provisions we will need along our journey. God has a perfect plan for us and when we call upon Him, He will answer (Jeremiah 33:3). We are His people, chosen for His glory and His purpose.
