Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Not only do we all need God’s grace, but grace in itself has many positive effects on our behavior: we extend grace to the poor and needy when we help them; through grace we are able to forgive someone who has done us wrong; it is through grace given to us by the Lord that we are able to endure hardship; it is also through grace that we can love someone who is difficult to love.
It is not something we can purchase or borrow from someone, it is an entirely free gift directly given to us by God. It is also not something we can work harder for; neither it is something we get more if we do more. It is all by Grace! “And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.” (Romans 11:6).
Grace is also the antidote to conquer sin and death, grace exponentially grows to take over sin, as it is written: “Where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 5:20-21).
We need God’s Grace to have faith; to be saved; and to have eternal life! That way none of us can ever boast about it, only thank the Lord for giving us His grace. Amen!
