Numbers 6: 24-26 (NKJV)
The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”
Did you notice how many times the word ‘You’ is mentioned in the excerpt above? That’s the nature of our God – to bless, be gracious and give peace to every single person who seeks Him.
On the face of it, this is a unique promise. But there is more to the excerpt than just the promise. In fact, it is one of the first times when the triune nature of God is introduced in the Bible.
The first verse gives us an inkling of God the Father – “The Lord Bless you and keep you.”
All through the Bible we read about the blessings bestowed on people by the Father. So great are his blessings that the Lord Jesus Himself said,
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” – Matthew 7-11
The second verse hints at God the Son – the Lord Jesus Christ – “The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you.”
Grace is the most evident character of the Lord Jesus. From the lunch He had with the well-known scamster Zacchaeus (Luke 19) to the rescue of the prostitute who was to be stoned (John 8), the Lord Jesus was gracious and compassionate to all. In doing so, He changed their life completely!
The third verse suggests the Holy Spirit – “The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”
The Holy Spirit intercedes for us by acting as our advocate and counsellor. After all true peace comes from being right with God.
The verse for today’s devotion is not a prayer or petition. It is a proclamation! Proclaim it over your life knowing that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit care about YOU!
