If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3
The book of John speaks a lot about Glory. Towards the final chapters, Jesus increases the number of times He tells His disciples that He will be glorified – Be lifted High. Unlike the royalties of earth, where the king is lifted high, Jesus was to be lifted high on the cross with much ridicule, rejection, and shame.
Jesus said and did many things that were strange for His disciples to follow. He spoke about being betrayed. He washed their feet and dried them with a towel; dined with them, and offered them bread which was to represent His flesh, and wine which represented His blood. He told Peter how he would deny Jesus three times. All this was very disturbing and sorrowful for the disciples, and Jesus felt their sorrow.
Rather than wallowing in the suffering Jesus was about to face, He laid aside His troubles and comforted His disciples by telling them, If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
This promise is true and comforting to each one of us as well. Though there may be many sorrows today, take courage. For one day Jesus will come to receive us that where He is, we also may be. As you look at the empty cross today, remember, Jesus is preparing a place for you.
