Genesis 26:12 – “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him.”
The 26th chapter of Genesis starts off with the words, “Now there was a famine in the land”… But by verse 12, we see that Isaac has reaped a hundredfold what he had sown. How did that happen?
First, Isaac obeyed God. In verse 3, God tells Isaac, “Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you.” Isaac heeds God’s command and remains in the place God has called Him. It’s no wonder that God blessed his implicit obedience. Second, Isaac planted crops. Isaac did not just obey God and remain idle. He worked hard. He tilled the land, planted crops and tended to it diligently. The Lord blessed his efforts and gave him a good harvest.
Are you waiting for a harvest in some area of your life? Be sure to follow Isaac’s lead – obey God and work hard. Make sure you are within the will of God. Let the Holy Spirit guide you daily to make decisions that align with God’s perfect will for you. Stay tuned to Him and He will guide you into perfect obedience. And then do the work. There is a certain amount of effort you have to put in, if you want a good harvest. Don’t worry if your work is good enough – just do the best you can and God will reward it. God will bless your obedience and your efforts – just you wait and see!
