When Life Rages, God Remains

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.

In Scripture, deep, turbulent waters often denote distress, overwhelming situations, and emotional and physical challenges that threaten our peace and stability. Just as water takes many forms, so do our trials and tribulations. Life often strikes without warning – through loss, heartbreak, illness, uncertainty, and struggles that feel too heavy to bear. Everything around us may be falling apart, and the end seems nowhere in sight.

Today’s verse shines as a beacon of hope, declaring a profound truth: God is with us in life’s most difficult moments. The promise that the waters “shall not overflow you” affirms God’s sustaining power that strengthens us amidst trials. It assures us that He stands between us and the water, preventing us from drowning. The Red Sea crossing powerfully demonstrates how God held back the water for the Israelites, yet allowed it to sweep over the Egyptians who were pursuing them.

Though God is not the author of tribulation, He works through it for our benefit and His glory. He turns every battle into something meaningful for His purpose. God never loses. Because He stands with us, nothing that rises against us can prevail. His presence and protection should fill us with confidence and help us view life from the perspective of a victor, not a victim.

This Lenten season, let’s learn to face whatever troubles us – trials, people, or circumstances – with confident hearts. May our faith stand firm against the storms, assured that Jesus’ hand is reaching out to hold us up. Let’s walk as victors in Christ, trusting Him to part the waters before us. As we journey through life’s deep waters, may this promise guide us and calm our hearts.
