Psalm 18:28 – “For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.”
Imagine you’re at home late in the evening, and there’s no electricity. You light up a candle, but after a few minutes a gust of wind comes through the open window and puts out the flame. When the candle goes out, you immediately look for another source of light. You use a matchstick or light up the stove in order to get your candle burning again.
We are a lot like the candle, aren’t we? It only takes a difficult situation to put out our light and leave us reeling in darkness. We find ourselves in a dark place with no hope of finding a way out. But rather than remaining there, we should reach out to the source of light – Christ Himself! He is the Light of the world – the only light that doesn’t dim and can never be extinguished.
When trials darken your life, Jesus wants to light you up again. But you need to first draw near to Him. He cannot light up your dark places if you remain far away from Him. Call out to Jesus. Draw close to Him. Allow His warm flame to spark up the fire in your life again. And once you’ve got your flame glowing, shine brightly and boldly for the world to see… For you reflect, not your own light, but the glory of your Savior.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
