The Key to Contentment

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:5‬ – Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The latter part of today’s verse is quite popular among believers, and rightly so. The promise that God will never leave us nor forsake us is one we can cling to during the rough days. But the first part of the verse teaches us something important too – contentment. If we want to live godly lives, we must learn to be content with what we have.

Discontentment can bring our lives to disarray. We end up being unhappy with our jobs, relationships, possessions, bank balance, and everything else. While setting goals and striving to move forward in life is good, it shouldn’t make us feel like we’re living a sub-standard life. Discontentment breeds jealousy, greed, covetousness, impatience and a negative outlook on life

On the other hand, contentment brings about joy, peace, a sense of sufficiency and a feeling of wellbeing. God wants us to be grateful for what we do have, and trust Him in the areas that we lack. The key to contentment is trusting God, believing that no matter what your current situation is, God will never leave you nor forsake you. And He is more than enough for us!
