Psalm 1:2—”Considering how safe, and quiet, and easy the humble are, we see that with the lowly is wisdom.”
Whatever God has given us, what we haven’t worked for to achieve, these things are called talents, blessings from God because of His grace released toward us. Let’s look at some examples: a good looking person who doesn’t have to work too hard to get things or favoritism from others, an intelligent student who gets good scores with minimal effort, a singer who rises above all else, a sportsperson who beats others with skill and speed, and so on. These are God-given talents and blessings. Therefore after a few successes it is easy to believe that the success is from our effort or because of us. Here is where pride slowly raises its ugly head unless we give the glory back to where it is due – God our creator and giver of every good thing.
‘When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.” If we continue on the road guided by the whispers of satan – we are so good; we are responsible for our achievements – we will find ourselves in a mess. Put down before all.
However, if we stay humble, we will recognize God’s work in our lives and give God the glory for our achievements.
“The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.”
Bible has these references about wisdom vs pride:
– Proverbs 8:13-14-The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way. And the perverse mouth I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.
– Proverbs 13:10-By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.
– Proverbs 16:18-19-Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.
How can we get wisdom? Lord told Moses about Bezalel — in Exodus 31:3 –And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.
All we need to do is to go to God and ask Him for wisdom, for guidance, and for humility.
Ephesians 1:17-21-that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
1 corinthians 1:18-For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
