Genesis 19:19: Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die.
Lot lived in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, a land where people were involved in abominable and incestuous things, which the Lord God could not tolerate. God had made up His mind to destroy it. The angels of the Lord commanded Lot and his family to flee into a safer zone before God would rain brimstone and fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah. He requests the angels’ permission to flee to a nearby city and his request is granted, but his wife becomes a pillar of salt because she violated the rule of the angels by turning back.
Lot was asked to run away to the mountains. Though he could not flee to the suggested place, he still found favor in the eyes of God. God granted him his wish of running off to the most nearby city. He enjoyed God’s mercy. Sometimes we rejoice when we ask God to bless our plans and He does it. Well, it does not mean that God is in it 100%. He might have allowed some things but that does not mean that that is His perfect will. Lot did find favor, that was what he thought, but his very own daughters committed incest with him and the result was definitely not God’s blessings. Always remember that just because God allowed certain things to come through in your life, it does not mean that that is totally in His will. Had he just run to the mountains with his family, God would have perhaps blessed his household like Abraham’s.
We miss out on a lot of good stuff when we give our plans to God and ask Him to bless them. Never do that mistake. Always pray, “God let your will be done and not mine.” When God blesses you, it will be a perfect blessing. Never take any short cuts. Let God be your director.
