Isaiah 9:6 – “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Most parents start thinking of baby names just a few months before the baby’s birth. But there was one Baby whose Name was prophesied hundreds of years before His birth. In today’s verse, we see Isaiah prophesying the birth of Jesus and the characteristics He would embody as the Son of God.
Everything we need, we can find in Jesus. He is Wonderful, there’s nothing sub-standard about Him. He’s fully God and fully man, and He’s nothing less than the best. He is our Mighty God, the source of all strength. He is a wise Counsellor we can turn to for help. His fatherly love for us is sacrificial and everlasting. He is the Prince of Peace, breathing peace into our stormy situations.
Jesus humbled Himself when He stepped down from His throne. He chose to be born in a lowly manger, the son of a carpenter and his wife. Because of Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection, we now have salvation, redemption and eternal life. The Name of Jesus brings healing, hope and honour for those who trust Him. May the Name of the Lord be lifted high in each of our lives this season. Merry Christmas!
