Psalm 119:105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
In our daily walk with the Lord, there may be times when we get impatient, anxious and restless about our future. Sometimes, even though we’re assured that the Lord leads us and guides us, it would be nice if we could get a sneak peek into our future. It’s like how some of us while reading a book and curiosity gets the better of us, we go to the last chapter to see how the story ends. Well, walking with the Lord will teach us to be patient and to persevere.
God isn’t going to let us see the distant scene. So we might as well quit looking for it. He promises a lamp unto our feet, not a crystal ball into the future. We do not need to know what will happen tomorrow. We only need to know He leads us and we will find grace to help us when we need it.
When that psalm was written, the “lamp” was a candle in a lamp people would carry around. Today, it would be a flashlight. If you hold a flashlight and you want more light down your path, you have to take the next step. Many times we’ve been stuck, looking for a light from God for our whole path. But God gives us just enough light for the next step. We take that next step, and God gives you light for the step after that. He just asks us to trust Him. It’s like driving a car at night. Our headlights never shine all the way to our destination; they illuminate only about 160 feet ahead. But that doesn’t deter us from moving forward. We trust our headlights. All we really need is enough light to keep moving forward.
When going through the dark phases of life, trust Jesus, He is the Light, He is the Word – full of love, mercy, grace, promises, assurances and so much more…
