God Is For You

Isaiah 49:15 – Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

God is for you.  In fact the Bible says, “God will rejoice over you!”  (He will rejoice over you. You will rest in his love; he will sing and be joyful about you. Zephaniah 3:17 )

Cast a glance at the sidelines; that’s God cheering your run. Look past the finish line; that’s God applauding your steps. Listen for him on the bench in the sports ground, shouting your name. Too tired to continue? He’ll carry you. Too discouraged to fight? He’s picking you up. God is for you.

In the text before us, God asks, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?” Can you mothers imagine feeding your infant and then later asking, “What was that baby’s name?” No. A mother strokes the hair, touches the face, and sings the name over and over. Can a mother forget? No way.

The Lord will never falter in His commitment to His children. Even if we have been abandoned by others, we can find confidence in His promise that nothing will ever “separate us from His love” (Rom. 8:35-39).

Sometimes we face struggles in life, and we are tempted to think that God has forgotten us. We may even believe that God no longer loves us. But God’s love for us is as expansive as the open arms of Christ on the cross. And the tender compassion of our heavenly Father is more dependable and more enduring than the love of a nursing mother for her infant. Be comforted—His love never fails.

Abba Father, thank You for Your never-failing presence in every aspect of our lives. We count on Your promise never to abandon us. Please teach us to rest in that truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
