Deuteronomy 7:6
For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God :the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
We are the chosen ones. We are the seed of Abraham, the seed of Isaiah, the seed of Jacob. The chosen generation. Holy and special. The word ‘ Holy’ means sacred; set apart from the profane (unholy) and for God. We are saved and washed by the blood of the lamb; ordained, separated and sanctified for God. Being Holy is not a choice it is a command!
The way we look at it is an act, an obedience, a right standing with God which is judged or understood by our actions. The Lord said to Moses in Exodus 3:5 ” Remove your sandals for where you stand is Holy ground”. In 1 Peter 1:16 the Lord said, ” Be Holy, as I am Holy”. And finally in 2 Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God”.
Perfecting holiness. Its not an easy road to understand the fact that right standing with the Lord also requires a lot of discipline and the choice and love of God to want to make that change in our lives. We cannot do this on our own strength; it is only possible because his Grace rests in our lives and our hearts. But many a times we walk away from the Grace of his holiness and only concentrate upon the act of being “Holy”. The act of being holy is only an act; nothing more and nothing less. Holiness comes from within. When the love of the Lord cleanses us in spirit and truth we walk on the path of Holiness. When the overflow of the Holy Spirit in vessels such as us longs to love the Lord and follow each of his commandments.
Sometimes in this world of complexities we fail to understand the impact of this word in our lives. We think we know but do we live it out in our lives everyday. Are we Holy, as our precious Lord wants us to be Holy?
