Body and Soul Need Washing

Hebrews 10:22 – …having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” (NIV)

During the time of Moses, specific cleansing rituals with blood had to be followed (Hebrews 9:19); later on, in order for the high priest to enter the Holy of Holies once a year, he had to offer blood for himself and for the sins the people committed in ignorance. (Hebrews 9:7).

Today, we can draw near to God. We can enter the Holy of Holies as priests. Because of Jesus’ blood, we are protected, his blood is our atonement, we have access to the Most Holy Place, and we will not be destroyed.  We can come near to God.

“And having our bodies washed with pure water.””This water symbolizes the Baptism that now saves you – not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.” (1 Peter 3:21)

We are asked to come to God and enter the Holy of Holies with a sincere heart; with the fullness of faith; a heart sprinkled with the blood of Jesus, which removes our sins, cleans  our conscience, removes every small particle of evil in us, speaks of peace, forgives us, frees us, brings us life, brings us healing in our body and in our emotions, brings us joy and compels us to have reverence for God.
