Divine Rewards

Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Doing something good for the poor, without expecting anything in return is one of the most blessed Christian actions. In the words of the Bible, it is like giving God a loan. And when God repays a loan, He doesn’t use the prevalent rate of interest to measure our reward. He dips into His glorious riches and gives without measure.

Even in the Old Testament, God very clearly instructed the Israelites to leave some of the fruit in the field for the poor. In fact, it was this very action that brought Ruth and Boaz together.

Living with her mother-in-law, Naomi, Ruth had little to support herself. When they got hungry, Naomi told Ruth to glean from what was left in the fields of local landlords. Ruth found Boaz’s field, and took from it as much as she wanted.

Boaz had a kind heart, and this kindness did not go unnoticed.

God ordained the marriage of Ruth and Boaz. It was from this wedlock that was, eventually, born our Saviour, Jesus Christ. As a reward for the kindness shown to Ruth, Boaz became the forefather of Jesus.

Blessings may not always manifest themselves in material possessions, just like caring for the poor in kind is just as, if not more, valuable than cash. E.g. Mother Teresa.

One thing is certain – what you give, will return with divine interest!
