Ticket to Heaven

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

What is more important – edifying the body or edifying the spirit?

The question may seem quite rhetoric, because without food we won’t survive very long. On the other hand, edifying the spirit can be delayed. Or can it?

Think about it from another perspective. Our life on Earth may add up to around 100 years. But, life after death is eternal. Now what is more important – edifying the body which will waste away in a century or edifying the spirit which lasts for eternity?

Of course, eternal life is far more important than a few years on Earth. It is for this very reason that Paul talks about the insignificance of eating and drinking in the Kingdom of God. We will shed our earthly clothing – our bodies – on Earth, where it will return to dust, and enter heaven in spirit.

Are we edifying our spirit to be morally healthy? Let’s exercise righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit to strengthen our relationship with God. It holds our ticket to heaven!
