John 3:16 (KJV)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The gospel writer John summarizes the entire good news of the Bible in one verse. John 3:16 is referred to as Salvation’s formula because it reveals the Foundation, Fee, Factors and the Fruit of salvation – the pardoning of our sin, and the promise of abundant and eternal life.
Foundation of Salvation: ‘For God SO loved the world’
The foundation of the redemptive work on the cross of Calvary was because of His intense love for us.
A Fee for Salvation: ‘that He gave His only begotten Son’
The fee that was paid for our pardon from sin was ‘while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
Factors that contribute to Salvation: ‘that whoever believes in Him’
Salvation was already purchased at the cross. We receive salvation not because of our good works but the only because we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Fruit of Salvation: ‘should not perish but have eternal life’
The fruit of our salvation is the promise of Eternal life with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our salvation though is free is never cheap. Today let’s thank God once again for paying all the price for our salvation and offering it to us for free.
