Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
Some of the most profound and promising words from God can be found in the book of Jeremiah. Like this verse, for instance. Sometimes in our quest to find God, it seems like He cannot be found. But when we read verse 13, the Lord reminds us of His extraordinary promise.
Many of us have experienced the feeling that finding God is impossible. We have felt His absence in times of trouble, giving rise to the question “where is God?” Beloved, God’s presence – or absence – can never be limited to our subjective feelings. It is based on our personal relationship with Him. You might be familiar with the lyrics of the song ‘Waymaker’: “Even when I don’t see it, you’re working; even when I don’t feel it, you’re working.” Just because we feel that God is far from us doesn’t mean He is.
Our Lord Jesus has promised that He will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). And God never lies. His nature is constant. His promises are eternal. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. As children of God, we are called to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). The next time our feelings contradict the Word of God, we must reject it straight away, and declare His promise: “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
As Paul told the Athenians, God “is not far from any one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:27–28). As we embark on our eternal quest to find God daily, let us remember and meditate on His mighty works, and welcome His ‘divine interruptions’.
