Philippians 4:4 NKJV
“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”
We love to rejoice when we have something to celebrate – good grades, the victory of a favorite team, a promotion or salary hike, a major achievement… Though there are some days when we genuinely rejoice, it’s a far cry Paul’s instruction to rejoice always.
You might not be able to imagine rejoicing when you’re going through intense challenges but remember that Paul wrote this statement from prison. He was persecuted for his faith and unjustly put behind bars. He underwent physical and mental torture and still wrote an entire letter to the Philippians about joy. He could do that because he always had a reason to rejoice – his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
No matter what difficult situation you might find yourself in today, you too have a reason to rejoice. The Lord Jesus Christ has saved you from eternal damnation by paying the price for your sin. He brought you out from the darkness and into His marvelous light. Even if you’re physically and emotionally exhausted, your spirit can still rejoice because you know your God is with you.
The next time you find yourself drained and unable to find joy, take a minute to remind yourself that God has not forgotten you. You can still celebrate the fact that Your Father is the King of kings. He’s got you in the palm of His hands.
